Enquiry Three Knowledge Organiser:

What will we see when we explore the world?

Our enquiry is all about the world and how people past and present have explored it. We will begin by revising the names and locations of the 7 continents and 5 oceans as well as the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom. We will then explore our local area, using maps and aerial photos to compare key landmarks. We will take part in some orienteering activities and learn about map symbols.

We will begin our history focus by learning about explorers from the past. We will learn some key facts about famous early explorers with a focus on Ibn Battuta. We will explore some of the challenges which early explorers faced and learn about the race to the South Pole.

We will continue to discover key explorers from the past and will learn about some aspects of modern exploration in order to compare the two. We will learn about space exploration and how modern technology has made exploring easier than in the past.

We will then focus on further developing our geographical skills by learning about an area in Nigeria and comparing it with our own local area. We will locate Nigeria using maps and atlases and look at the key human and physical features of both areas.
